Seriously though, there are always a bunch of factors in play. If Tom Fischer uses only scooped mids and gets a good tone from them, bully for him... I don't always care for that sound and only a few bands really pull it off.

When you find an interview with the recording engineer, then you might have some useful info on how an album sounds, which has shocking little to do with how a rig sounds. You've already said he used a mid boost pedal. The bit you are lacking is a basic understanding of how sound and hearing work. If you have no mids, you have no guitar tone, because guitar is a midrange instrument, and ears work in the midrange. How you manipulate the balance of mids and the sources of those frequencies is where all of the taste call goes.
