I don't know about gear and am not a musician but wanna tell one thing about one tone I've once heard... It was Sunn 0))) on a tour years ago they did with Earth, if I remember correctly. I saw them both the one evening in Paradiso, Amsterdam and the next night in Vera, Groningen (lucky me). It was not something Sunn 0))) did on guitar, which always is stunning enough, but it was something in the intro they played. Something that came from a tape, a computer, or whatever and that was só disturbingly low...not only did my pants vibrate (totally not uncommon with Sunn 0))) as you all know) but the fluid in my eyeballs did too, and you could see and feel the air the aether around you vibrate... That was completely insane and the whole room murmured after that and went 'wowwww'... Same tone next night in Vera was not as intense as the night before, so it was also thanks to Paradiso's gear. But that one tone stays in my mind as one of the most incredible, and scary, sounds I've ever heard, or better put; felt.

the time i saw sunn on their tour with boris opening (2006?), they played logan auditorium in chicago. oren ambarchi played synth which was just low notes that made my entire body vibrate, including my eyes and throat. i think that was a moog probably ran through something as well.
