No offense meant, but the similarities are only on the surface (spacey synths, etc.). IMO, Hawkwind writes great songs. Ozric just does a lot of wanking. They're really a jam band in spacerock drag. If you like that sort of thing, they're okay. But I was bored to tears listening to a whole album of it. Again, just my opinion...

That's not too bad... would've been much much worse if he would've said SHPONGLE instead of Ozrics.

Yeah, I just don't get what was dumb about that comparison at all. What you call surface similarities (spacey, synths etc) could easily be enough for a person who's in to one to dig the other, as stated above.

Okay, let's agree to disagree. To me, Ozric seems like a very technically skilled band interested mostly in shredding. This isn't necesarilly a bad thing, I just don't enjoy it. In fact, I'm easily bored by it if there isn't something meaningful behind it (I can listen to a 10 minute Frank Zappa solo, if it's in a great song). I see Hawkwind as more about song structure and feel. Even their experimental stuff creates an atmosphere instead of just displaying chops. The difference between good composition and self indulgent wanking is huge to me. I guess I can see your point. I just can't agree with it.

Housemate constantly referring to anything I listen to as Doom, because I play doom. I am mostly listening to Bonnie Prince Billy, Prodigy and Om's God is Good, along with a bunch of weird folk.
