my mark IV has ear splitting treble if you put the treble above 10 o'clock.

I think the treble on my 120 is nice. I actually have the treble and mids a little higher than the bass setting usually and I have quite a thick sound. I noticed when switching from the russian BMP to the Blackarts Pharoah that the mid and treble control on the amp became more friendly and sweeter and I've become more keen on the amp since the swap. The BMP is for sale if anyone is interested.

My preference for guitars are ones that are very dark and round acousitcally if you find this relevant.

I always leave the presense all the way down because it only seems to increase harshness and hiss.

Typical case of "your mileage may vary" I suppose.

The treble on my SC120 MKIV is a bitch, it cuts out completely between about 2 o'clock and 4 o'clock. I usually set it to about 1 o'clock and use a treble booster pedal when needed.

thanks for all the info, clearly is something wrong with the trebble and presence pots, or something around ... in fact i think i have to be missing some hiss also, cause, at least, my 120 is really silent, too much i would say, i really think is related ...
i have using a gibson les paul and sg in B tunning with the byoc clone. and really it sounded like if i would plugged to a amp of begginer 20 watts amp of 100 bucks or a cheap vocals p.a. ...
i still have to try to swap pre amp tubes but i dont think it might be as they are all really new, will see ....

I just found a SC 50+ for 5000 swedish krones which is 700 american dollars. These are rare in sweden but i have a question about it.
What is the difference between the 50+ and the 120? i really like the tone of the 120

This one is modded in that way that there is a master level pot in the back of it.
thanks.

120 has four more power valves and correspondingly more power, and more low end due to bigger transformers, and is probably set up to be cleaner. However the fact its modified in the preamp says all bets as to tone are off.

I'll work some sort of awesome discount for everyone involved if several people buy Sound City 120 from me at around the same time. Working or non working, I have several of either state. Just been speaking to Matamp about something a bit special I'll need to fund.

Anyone know how the knobs on earlier heads come off? They don't have a little screw holding them in like my 120 ones. I don't want to risk breaking them by trying to force them off. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
